The species Coprobacter secundus was originally described and validly published by Shkoporov et al. 2015. In 2021, Sakamoto et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Coprobacter secundus secundus (Shkoporov et al. 2015) Sakamoto et al. 2021
.
Sakamoto et al. 2021 note that 'Gabonia massiliensis' is a later heterotypic synonym.
