No formal description exists in accordance with rule 28b and therefore this species is not validly published. According to Löffler et. al 2013 (10.1099/ijs.0.034926-0), the name Dehalococcoides ethenogenes (not validly published) is now described as Dehalococcoides mccartyi which is validly published.
