Nomenclatural History
|
The species Treponema carateum was originally described by Brumpt 1939. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1984 the name was revived by Smibert. In 2015, reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Treponema pallidum carateum (Smibert 1984) None 2015
.
