Nomenclatural History
The species Bifidobacterium globosum was originally described by Scardovi and Trovatelli 1969. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1982 the name was revived and validly published by Biavati et al.. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. Nouioui et al. elevated the subspecies Yaeshima et al. 1992 to the rank of species to form this name in 2018.
