The genus Hongiella was originally proposed and validly published by Yi and Chun 2004. Nedashkovskaya et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2004. Nedashkovskaya et al. transferred the members of this genus into Bowman et al. 2003 emend. Han et al. 2017 in 2007.
