Nomenclatural History
The species Bifidobacterium saeculare was originally described by Biavati et al. 1991. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 40 in 1992. In 2018, Nouioui et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Biavati et al. 1992) Nouioui et al. 2018 . In 2020, Liu et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Biavati et al. 1992) Liu et al. 2020 . Liu et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Watabe et al. 1983 emend. Liu et al. 2020 in 2020.
