Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Fusobacterium nucleatum fusiforme was originally described by Veillon and Zuber 1898. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1992 the name was revived and validly published by Gharbia and Shah. Kook et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Dzink et al. 1990 in 2013.
